Why Do I Need a Root Canal?
A root canal is needed when the inside of the tooth becomes infected or damaged—often due to deep decay, a crack, traumatic injury, or as a result of a filling or crown that was previously placed near the pulp of the tooth. The procedure removes the source of pain, stops infection, and helps save your natural tooth. Patient symptoms when a root canal is needed may include one or more of the following:
- Pain or sensitivity to hot and or cold
- Pain associated with pressure or biting
- Dull ache
- Sharp shooting pain
- Facial swelling
What is Involved in Root Canal Treatment?
During treatment, the inflamed or infected pulp is carefully removed, the inside of the tooth is cleaned and disinfected, and the space is sealed to prevent future issues. Most root canals are completed in one visit using advanced technology and are designed to relieve pain—not cause it. After treatment, the tooth is typically restored with a crown to protect and strengthen it.
Take the first step in preserving your smile.
